TTc - April 2017 Newsletter

This is our April 2017 renewal news. At TTc our aim is to provide a world-class service at a cost effective price. To help us improve how we serve you please do let us know if there is ever anything that falls short of excellence in any of your interactions with us; be it communications, claims or anything else.

Renewal Meeting 2017
This March we had our latest renewal discussions with Aetna. Any changes will only affect policies that start after April 30 2017.

This year we will have to include a 5% increase on our Alpha premiums to reflect the rising cost of claims. The new rates will take effect for policies with start dates after May 1 2017.

The past 12 months have seen a significant rise in our Omega claims from the past year. Claims were relatively high across the board, and we also had 3 large US claims which each in their own right would have been our largest claim ever. If this year had been taken in isolation, we could have been looking at premium increases in excess of 60% on the Omega policy.

As it is, we will be making a few changes to the policy, including incentivizing people to seek more treatment outside of the United States where the cost of treatment is highest, and increasing our Omega premiums by 10%. The new rates will take effect for policies with start dates after May 1 2017.

Omega Policy changes
There are 4 changes happening to your Omega policy at your next renewal:
  1. US policy excess change - The policy excesses for claims on treatment within the United States will be increased.
    • Level 1 from US$250 to US$400
    • Level 2 from US$500 to US$800
    • Level 3 from US$1,500 to US$2,000
    • Level 4 from US$3,000 to US$4,000
    • Deductible from US$1,000 to US$1,600
    • Hybrid will have no change
  2. The US co-insurance maximum will rise from US$5,000 to US$10,000.
  3. Members who are spending more than 6 months in the United States within a policy year will have a new 50% loading on their premium.
  4. Currently only reimbursements over US$15,000 in a policy year will cause a member to lose the entirety of their No Claims Bonus, this will now shift to US$10,000 of reimbursements within the United States, and US$25,000 for reimbursements outside of the United States. A reimbursement below these amounts will result in a loss equivalent to 2 years of the No Claims Bonus.

Feedback
We have had good feedback from members on claims turnaround times and most general interactions with both our team at TTc and with Aetna. We have had a few issues with some delays to a few pre-authorizations for some planned treatment; if you have experienced anything like this please do let me know. One thing I do encourage you to do is if you require a pre-authorization for any treatment that even if a medical facility says that they will take care of it for you, that you ask for them to cc you on all communications, as there have been several instances where hospitals have blamed Aetna, but further investigation revealed that the hospital had not actually communicated anything, or had sent something to a wrong address.

Doctor Care Anywhere
The Doctor Care Anywhere service has been a great hit with many of you, and it has been wonderful to hear about your experience with the service. If you have not signed up yet, please do so soon as I am unsure how long the pilot phase will continue as Aetna have started rolling the service out across their own staff and are looking at offering it to other members now too.

Thank you for continuing to be good stewards of these insurance programs so that we can continue to provide the services to many others serving around the world just like yourself.

Blessings, Nathan Lyon
